      Acer saccharum (also known as the sugar maple) is a species of maple native to the hardwood forests of eastern Canada, and the northern parts of the Central and Eastern United States, from Minnesota eastward to the highlands of the eastern states.The Sugar maple is best known for its bright fall foliage and for being the primary source of maple syrup. It is very hard and a fast grower reaching 16 feet in ten years and 80 feet at maturity. Zone 4

      These Japanese maple trees are green leafed species maples. That is they are seedlings of the genus Acer palmatum. They are beautiful in their own way all slightly different from one another. They are often hardier than cultivars and make a great choice for the gardener that is looking for a Japanese maple for the first time. They are great for multiple plantings in the landscape or bonsai. Spring time color is light green with flecks of red from the leaf buds. As summer progresses the leaves turn a darker shade of green. Fall brings bright oranges and reds to the leaves. Very hardy. Under optimum conditions this tree can grow 30 feet high or more. Many of the trees we offer may have a small grafting scar from a failed grafting attempt.  This scar will be gone in a year or two as the tree matures.
