A. japonicum Aconitifolium ‘Dancing Peacock’
The Acer japonicum Aconitifolium or Dancing Peacock has thickly dissected green leaves give this maple the general appearance that a multitude of peacocks are dancing on the limb. Fantastic performer in the fall as leaves display brilliant scarlet tones with oranges and giving the appearance of flames. Attractive crimson-colored seeds. Aconitifolium means finely cut leaves. Beni ubi gohan
Beni ubi gohan is a small, slow growing red-leafed linearlobum palmatum, perfect for containers or bonsai. In the landscape, Beni ubi gohan will grow to about 5' high and as wide. A very fine palmatum, this maple will add a touch of elegance to your garden. Scarlet Fall color.
The Japanese maple Butterfly is a lovely Acer palmatum which has leaves that are variable in shape and are a beautiful variegated leaf color of cream with light pink margins. Butterfly has a very nice magenta fall color. Butterfly grows with a habit that is rather twiggy and vase-shaped. Grows to 15 feet tall. Very Sturdy and tolerable of Sun in hot climates - in very hot areas give partial shade in afternoon. Cold hardy to Zone 5
Carperci's Dwarf is beautiful dwarf Acer palmatum that emerges in the spring with coral or light pink leaves, becoming medium green for the summer. This small tree form of Japanese maple has tiny green leaves and a dense, rounded habit. It prefers sun/partial shade in well-drained soil. Golden to crimson Fall color. It will become 4' tall x 3' wide in 10 years. Hardy to -20 degrees.
Coral Bark Japanese Maple
The Coral Bark maple has beautiful red winter twigs which are the attraction with this fine Japanese maple. The Coral bark maple is also known as Acer palmatum Sango Kaku, the Lovely green leaves turn golden yellow to orange in Fall. Sango kaku will grow to about 12' in ten years. Sun/ part shade.
Crimson Queen is a lace leaf cultivar that is an excellent all-round performer. Dark purple-red leaves fade slightly in late summer, changing to bright red in Fall. It has a typical pendulus habit common to the dissectums. Will reach 8' x 8 in 12 years. Hardy. Does well in hot climates - but protect from intense ot sun.
Emerald Lace is our favorite green Acer palmatum with finely dissected leaves. Leaves emerge in spring bright green with red petioles which remain red throughout the season. Summer color lightens to light green with red highlights. Fall colors run through yellow to orange and finish up with firey red. Hardy and vigorous. A great plant! Typical cascading habit. Sun/ part shade.
Emperor I (aka Red Emperor I) is a cultivar developed from a seedling of Bloodgood. Red Emperor is considered to be superior over 'Bloodgood' with more brilliant red color throughout the growing season. Emperor I leafs out about a week later than Bloodgood in the spring, so it's not as frost susceptible early in the season. More tolerant of heat than Bloodgood. Bright red fall color. Upright growing 20 feet. Full sun, partial shade
A very nice red palmatum, Fireglow tends to hold it's red color in the heat better than Bloodgood and other red palmatums. New growth on this vigorous, upright cultivar is bright cherry red that darkens some throughout the summer without fading. Not as tall or widespread as the Bloodgood. 10-12 feet in 8 years. Acer palmatum Glowing Embers is a wonderful green leafed Japanese Maple selection for the South, performing well in hot climates and an outstanding performer in the north as well. Glowing embers is green throughout spring and summer but late in the fall it turns into a grand performing cultivar, it glows fiery orange to orange-red. Acer palmatum Katsura Hime is a dwarf version of Katsura. Katsura Hime leaves emerges bright yellow-orange in the spring. This coloration fades to an attractive light green during the summer months. Come fall, leaves turn to yellows and oranges on this lovely cultivar. The Katsura Japanese maple is a hardy cultivar. Height in 10 years about 6'.
Acer palmatum Kotobuki is gorgeous new dwarf maple from Japan. It spring it leafs out with bright pink and white variegation. Kotobuki tends to have more pink variegation than Asahi zuru and Oridono nishiki. Added attraction for Kotobuki is that the stems on new growth have bright pink as well. Fall colors are bright oranges to bright reds infused with pink variegation. It will reach 6’ tall by 5’ wide in 10 years making a dense dwarf. Hardy - but prefers afternoon shade in hot sunny locations.
Acer shirasawanum Moonrise is a wonderful cousin to A. s. Full Moon and A. s. Autumn Moon. It is similar in leaf shape to both the Full Moon Maple and the Autumn moon but has a greater display of colors throughout the seasons. In spring the leaves emerge with an orange-red blush turning to a summer leaf color that is very similar to A. s. Aureum or A. s. Autumn Moon. Moonrise can handle the heat better than other Acer shirasawanums. Very nice and showy! Growth to 6-8' tall.

The Orange Flame Japanese maple is an upright, strong grower, with a deeply lobed leaf. In Spring new leaves emerge orange and then turn a pleasing light green in the summer. In summer the new second growth lights up like a flame - hence the name Orange Flame. Added bonus is that the winter bark color is also orange on newer growth! Oridono nishiki spring color is a splash of bright pink, white, cream or any combination of these colors with various-sized areas of green. The new shoots are sometimes pink and the newer bark has stripes of pink throughout. This plant is sturdy and vigorous and will form an upright, round topped tree, growing to 12 ft. in 10 years. This tree will be a striking addition to your landscape.
Pixie is like a miniature version of the maple Acer palmatum Bloodgood. Pixie is a nice red leaf dwarf maple that has leaves very similar to Bloodgood in that they are a bright red in spring gradually changing to deep red throughout the summer and bright scarlet in autumn. Pixie is one of Mendocino Maples favorite red leafed Japanese maples. Pixie will grow to about 6 -7' high and about 6-7' wide. Sun with afternoon shade in hot climates. Pixie is cold hardy and can handle down to zone 5, -15° F.
adiant is a new Japanese maple introduction from Garden Designs Nursery in Georgia. Radiant has amazing variegation, with patches of pink and white along with touches of green thrown in. Bark is irregularly striped green and pink. With so much variegation in the leaf, it is best to plant Radiant in morning sun and afternoon shade in hot areas. Radiant will grow into an upright tree to about 10' Hardy to zone 6.
Acer palmatum Red Dragon holds it's deep purple-red color in shade better than any other red dissectum. Habit and form is similar to other dissectum palmatums, perhaps slower growing than the most vigorous red dissectums. Red Dragon emerges in the spring bright scarlet in color, becoming rich burgundy in summer, turning to fiery red in the fall. Excellent small garden, rock garden or bonsai plant. Sun/part shade
Rhode Island Red
A wonderful new red dwarf Japanese maple - Acer palmatum Rhode Island Red is going to be the new contender for a favorite along with Pixie. Rhode Island Red is a more compact dense leafed Japanese dwarf form than Pixie. It holds its color very well in the heat and sun. Rhode Island Red has a bright red, spring flush that darkens to a gorgeous purple-red as the leaves mature. Fall foliage is an outstanding fiery orange to red. Rhode Island Red will grow 6 foot tall and 5 foot wide in 10 years. This tree is hardy to -20 degrees, USDA zone 5. This beautiful tree originated in Middletown, Rhode Island.
The Seiryu Japanese maple is a classy upright growing form of the dissectum Acer palmatum maples. Seiryu is a very sturdy and lovely plant with bright green leaves tipped with red in spring. Seiryu has fantastic fall color with leaves turning yellow orange to red. Seiryu is a very nice hardy plant despite it's delicate appearance. Will reach 12 feet in 10 years. Sun / or part shade 2 gallons are a tad small - but still nice.

One of our favorites out of all the maples, Shindeshojo is a medium sized maple to 8 -10 feet. This Acer palamtum cultivar has the most brilliant red spring color of all maples! Place Shindeshojo next to a green maple and it is a total knockout! New growth on Shindeshojo is flaming scarlet or fire-engine red that holds for several months, gradually changing through mottled red to green in summer. A very nice classy maple. Full size will be about 8' H by 10' wide. Autumn colors are shades of orange and red. Hardy. Shindeshojo is very similar to Chisio improved.
Skeeters Broom is a very nice dwarf Acer palmatum that arose from a witch's broom of Bloodgood. Skeeters broom has bright red spring color, becoming burgandy red foliage in the summer, and bright red again in the Fall. As typical with witch's brooms, Skeeters has a leaf with a truncated central lobe. Stronger and easier to grow than some of the other witches brooms. Very hardy and tolerates heat well. It forms a beautiful narrow upright tree to 6'.
Summer Gold is a great Acer palmatum that displays a showy golden yellow color throughout the summer. Unlike other yellow-leaved varieties, Summer Gold promises to keep it color even it hot sunny conditions better than others. Summer Gold has Leaves which emerge light green in the Spring, turn to golden yellow in Summer and then finally bright yellow in the Fall. Summer Gold will grow to about 12 ft. Hardy and can tolerate sun - but in super hot areas protect with afternoon shade.
Trompenberg is a nice sturdy upright shiny red-leaved Acer palmatum. Trompenburg is unusual in that it has deep purple-red leaves that curl downward along the edges. is Fall color is a bright scarlet red. Trompenburg fast growing and has a open growth habit to about 20 feet tall, spreading to 15 feet. It can tolerate full sun, with partial shade in very hot locations. Hardy to -15° F.
Acer palmatum Viridis is a hardy and fast growing green lace leaf (dissectum) that will reach 6 feet in 10 years. Virdis is a weeping maple, typical of most lace leaf maples. The light green spring color of Viridis turns the full spectrum in the fall...yellow orange to bright red. Virdis can take full sun, but needs partial shade in very hot areas. Very hardy. Can take cold to Zone 5
Winter Flame is an Acer palmatum cultivar that is a smaller, more compact version of the Coral Bark Maple (Sango kaku) . The palmate green leaves on Winter Flame take on a yellow, orange and then a fiery red with the bark a bright coral red in winter. Winter Flame seems to be a bit hardier than the Coral bark (less twig die back). 8 feet in ten years. Can handle sun bit in hot areas provide afternoon shade. Cold hardy to -15°F.
