Acer palmatum Manyo no sato is a semi-dwarf Japanese maple cultivar that provides a striking pop of color with its unique purple and lime green variegated leaves. In Japanese, Manyo no Sato translates to “village of 10,000 leaves” and it looks like it came from another planet. This beautiful maple has fall colors are primarily orange. Hardy to -20 degrees. Relatively hardy and can withstand temperatures into the mid 90s. Will grow six feet tall by 4 feet wide in about 10 years. Morning sun Afternoon shade is best in hot climates.

Little Gem is a wonderful Acer circinatum dwarf. Little Gem is a dwarf vine maple that was discovered as a witches broom in a vine maple. The Little Gem maple grows into a compact rounded shrub to about 3 feet high. Little Gem has small orbicular leaves about 1" in size which emerge light green in spring and turn to a darker shade by summer. Fall color is orange turning to fiery red. Pacific Fire is our favorite cultivar of Acer circinatum. Pacific Fire has flaming red bark in the winter that dazzles in the landscape with color. The orange - red bark has a waxy sheen to it that really makes the bark shine. Nice bronzing of the leaves when placed in full sun. A multibranching shrub/tree like species that is slower growing. Fall color is bright yellows with some orange which really make a show against the fiery bark! Pacific Fire reaches 10 feet in 8 years. Holds up well in the sun and heat, but will burn in extreme heat (> 90°) Hardy to -20 degrees. Best suited for zones 5-8, (some exceptions).

These Japanese maple trees are green leafed species maples. That is they are seedlings of the genus Acer palmatum. They are beautiful in their own way all slightly different from one another. They are often hardier than cultivars and make a great choice for the gardener that is looking for a Japanese maple for the first time. They are great for multiple plantings in the landscape or bonsai. Spring time color is light green with flecks of red from the leaf buds. As summer progresses the leaves turn a darker shade of green. Fall brings bright oranges and reds to the leaves. Very hardy. Under optimum conditions this tree can grow 30 feet high or more. Many of the trees we offer may have a small grafting scar from a failed grafting attempt.  This scar will be gone in a year or two as the tree matures.

A. japonicum Giant Moon
Giant moon is a new cultivar which we are still evaluating. Very large light green orbicular leaves emerge from this japonicum with tinges of pink. The leaves as they emerge are covered with a fine hair making them silvery in appearance. Growth appears to be similar to A.j. Aconitifolium in that it is open and layering. Sun /afternoon shade.

Acer shirasawanum Autumn Moon has spring foliage which is an unusual pink orange color with an underlying shade of chartreuse green. Autumn moon will color up nicely in full sun with a wonderful orange. Like the Full Moon Maple, Autumn moon is a very showy maple - it is one of our favorites. Autumn moon is more hardy and vigorous than the Full Moon Maple A. s. 'Aureum'.  Fall color is a rich orange and red. This small tree seems to stand heat well. 12 feet in 10 years. Sun /part shade. Zones 5-9.
