Acer circinatum Burgundy Jewel
Acer circinatum Burgundy Jewel is a wonderful small tree or shrub. The unique charateristic of this vine maple cultivar is that it has purple-red leaves which hold their color well throughout summer, especially in full sun. In fact, Burgundy Jewel holds its' color best when placed in full sun! Fall colors range from brilliant orange to scarlet red. Burgundy Jewel will grow to about 6' tall x 4' wide in 10 years. Hardy to -20 degrees. USDA zone 5.
Acer palmatum – species
These Japanese maple trees are green leafed species maples. That is they are seedlings of the genus Acer palmatum. They are beautiful in their own way all slightly different from one another. They are often hardier than cultivars and make a great choice for the gardener that is looking for a Japanese maple for the first time. They are great for multiple plantings in the landscape or bonsai. Spring time color is light green with flecks of red from the leaf buds. As summer progresses the leaves turn a darker shade of green. Fall brings bright oranges and reds to the leaves. Very hardy. Under optimum conditions this tree can grow 30 feet high or more. Many of the trees we offer may have a small grafting scar from a failed grafting attempt. This scar will be gone in a year or two as the tree matures.

A. japonicum O isami
O isami is a very nice Japonicum with habits similar to the genus - Open and spreading. Large orbicular green leaves turn brilliant fall colors of yellow to orange to red! Upright and sturdy growing. Oisami will reach to about 12-15 ' in 10 years.
Easy to Grow Japanese Maples
A. japonicum Aconitifolium ‘Dancing Peacock’
The Acer japonicum Aconitifolium or Dancing Peacock has thickly dissected green leaves give this maple the general appearance that a multitude of peacocks are dancing on the limb. The Dancing Peacock is a fantastic performer in the fall as leaves display brilliant scarlet tones with oranges and giving the appearance of flames. Attractive crimson-colored seeds. Aconitifolium means finely cut leaves. This plant is also known as Maiku Jaku. Dancing Peacock is a hardy plant that can reach 14 feet at maximum height with a spread of 10-12 feet. Prefers sun with partial shade. Best suited for zones 5-9.
Acer palmatum Pixie is like a miniature version of the Japanese maple Bloodgood. Pixie is a very nice red leaf dwarf maple that has leaves very similar to Bloodgood in that they are a bright red in spring gradually changing to deep red throughout the summer and bright scarlet in autumn. Pixie is one of Mendocino Maples favorite red leafed Japanese maples. Pixie will grow to about 6 -7 feet high and about 6-7 feet wide in 10 years. Pixie can handle a lot of sun but give afternoon shade in real hot climates. Pixie is cold hardy and can handle down to -15° F. Best suited for zones 5-9.
