With a cascading habit typical of lace leafs, Jeddeloh Orange has orange leaves that emerge in the spring over deep green foliage. Ths green foliage lasts through out summer until Jeddeloh puts on a fall display of yellow orange to fiery red. Jeddeloh is hardy and can tolerate heat - but give afternoon shade in very hot locals. Kaleidoscope is a new Japanese maple introduction by Mendocino Maples Nursery. Kaleioscope was found in 2007 growing as a variegated sport on a Seigen. New medium sized leaves emerge in the spring bright orangish red – not unlike Shindeshojo. They stay bright orange-red for several weeks and then will develop into a green leaf with speckles of red, orange, pink and white variegation. Not all leaves on Kaleidoscope show the variegation but many do. Some leaves are sickle-shape like found on Asahi Zuru or Oridono Nishiki. Many leaves have heavy variegation while some lack it entirely Kaleidoscope has Fall Color that is pleasing pastel yellow, oranges and reds. Small growing tree to about 6’ Grows hardy and seems to prefer morning sun and afternoon shade in hot climates. The Kaleidoscope mother plant is over 10 yrs. old and is only 5’ H by about 5’W. I suspect it will grow slightly larger than this over time but it will not be a large tree.

Mendocino Momiji is in the matsumurae group with deeply divided medium sized leaves. Leaves emerge in spring a wonderful peachy orange color with purplish petioles. As summer progresses the leaves pick up a blush of red on the light green leaves. Fall color is intense orange and red. A wonderful small growing tree mounding to about 5’ by 6' in 10 years. After 7 years of careful scrutiny, we are happy to introduce to you a unique and beautiful new Japanese Maple - Mendocino Sunrise. Mendocino Sunrise arose as a sport on Acer palmatum Summer Gold. This attractive Japanese maple cultivar has small, yellow, palmate leaves which are quite distinctive. The leaves are mainly 5-lobed with narrow ovate, deeply divided lobes with somewhat elongated tips approximately 3-4 cm in length, and relatively coarse, irregularly toothed or somewhat frilled margins. Mendocino Sunrise has newly emerging leaves which are yellow sometimes edged with red. By summer some of the red fades leaving a yellow color with an orange blush to the leaves. In the direct hot summer sun, the yellow color lightens and the orange blush becomes more prominent. Mendocino Sunrise is an upright rather dense small tree growing to about 8 feet in about 8 yrs. Outstanding Features: Emerges in spring with tinges of red on yellow leaves. Ruffle edges on leaves. Nice yellow-orange color in summer. Hardy strong growing maple. Mendocino Sunrise is suitable for small or large gardens, landscape planting, patio, container, and bonsai. Cultural needs: Hardy and strong growing, suitable for warm sunny locations – but will burn in severe hot weather and windy locations. This new cultivar Mendocino Sunrise was accepted by the I.C.R.A. (International Cultivar Registration Authority) for Maples in May 2016.
