Most maples in their native habitat are understory plants. As long as there is filtered light maples will do fine. You should realize, many of the red leafed maples will not develop the full deep red color if they do not get adequate sun exposure. Usually 3 hours or more is needed to bring out the cultivar color. If the sun is intense for the few hours then that may suffice for color formation.

Acer ‘White Tigress’
The White Tigress maple is considered to be by some the most striking of the snakebark maples. Bright white striations against a bright green bark is truly a sight. White Tigress is a cultivar that is often described as a hybrid, possibly A. davidii x A. tegmentosum. Some consider it the most heat tolerant of the snakebark maples. A knockout of a plant! This beautiful variegated Acer cauditifolium has soft pastel variegation throughout the leaves. Lots of pink in the spring and throughout the year in the stems. This plant is a strong grower and hardy. New to the nursery our oldest plant is 5 years and about 7' tall and 5' wide. Tends to hold it leaves long into the Fall. Nice yellow and orange Fall color. Acer palmatum Lima Gold is a wonderful dwarf Japanese maple that has a cheery bright appearance. Great for Bonsai. A dwarf maple, Lima Gold has a dense form with tiny seven-lobed leaves are yellow-green in spring and summer, then turn to straw yellow in autumn. Lima Gold does best with part shade in hot climates. A nice palmatum cultivar, Peaches and Cream has variegated creamy-white leaves and dark green veins. In spring, the tips of the leaves and edges are a delicate shade of rose-pink which fades in the summer leaving just a pink border. Peaches and Cream is a medium sized tree growing to about 10' H x 8' W. Fall color is yellow. Can handle some sun but likes mostly shade.

Taylor
Acer palmatum Taylor is a very pink variegated Japanese maple. Its leaves are deeply lobed, with the whole leaf emerging overall pink in the spring, then turning to light green in the center. From early summer it gains prominent white margins and will hold it's pink color throughout the whole season. Taylor is a very slow growing Japanese maple and will eventually only grow about 6 'tall and wide.
Taylor will form a dense and compact shrub even when young. Can be hard to grow especially in cold wet climates. Hardy to -10 and best suited for zones 6-8.
