I bought the shaina Japanese maple tree. It cost like $80 bucks.
It was 37 inches tall and about 9 to 10 inches in diameter. It has scarlet leaves on top but green leaves on the bottom but this is late August so time will tell. Very Pretty tree and I think in a year or two it will become its own. Great tree for a container.Some sun most shade. Sun again in the evening.Love the tree.

I ordered a pixie red maple tree for my Mother who was in her final stage of cancer. I ordered it on Sunday and was devastated when I received the email confirmation stating that I had to order it by Saturday in order for it to be shipped out that Monday. I knew my Mother didn’t have enough time to wait an additional week. I emailed them, explaining the situation and Robert promptly replied, even though it was late Sunday evening. He ensured that it was mailed out the following day. Sadly, my Mother also passed away that day, but we will still plant it for her as a memorial. I didn’t expect it to look like much more than a three foot branch, since that was what I received from a different company, when I ordered fruit trees that unfortunately never prospered. When I opened the box however, I saw a beautiful, healthy tree, full of leaves. They also included step by step instructions on how to plant and care for it, which will be very helpful. This company has amazing customer service and products. I hope everyone on this website decides to go through them, when debating where to order their trees from. WOW, I ordered a Bihou Japanese Maple last Thursday and it arrived today, a day earlier than I expected. I appreciated that because it was only in transit for 48 hours or less. The tree was supposed to be 28″ to 36″ tall but this tree is closer to 56″ and the tree is beautiful. It is very healthy and not a leaf off the tree. I have ordered trees from other nurseries that have cost more and were only twigs. I am very happy with my purchase and will be ordering more trees for sure. Great people to buy from.

Last December, during a violent wind/rain storm, the top 50 ft. of my blue Atlas cedar broke off and landed in one of my Japanese maple beds (containing a fair percentage of my collection of 166 Japanese maples), causing considerable damage. My magnificent 12 year old Hogyoku, which was 15 feet tall with a comparable crown, is now less than 5 ft. with only 2 little branches remaining. My Orangeola is now only a stump. My husband said that if I could find replacements, he would buy them for a Valentine’s Day gift. I knew immediately to check Mendocino Maples’ website and, as expected, both were available and they, along with a Burgundy Jewel to add to my collection, arrived yesterday in perfect condition. I live in mid-America and I want the public to know and Robert, “that all of your competition back here mad mouth shipping from the west coast. I bought a Coral Bark Sango Kaku a few months back and it arrived in perfect shape. I could not have bought it from a local nursery or box store and received a better product. We have had heat for two weeks at 113 heat index and a cold front came threw and we had a record low of 53 degree over night. The tree as expected suffered some shock. It is not as peppy as it was when we first got the tree. Robert is communicating with me and I am sure we can get her back to health. Will not accept, nor want a new tree if it does not make it. Mother nature has caused this and by no means will I expect a tree given to me in exchange.

The service and the quality of the tree has convinced me that I will be buying at least three more tree’s from them. At times we can not fool Mother Nature.

So let me start out by saying I never had much faith in purchasing any kind of plan over the internet. You have no idea what you’re getting till it arrives at your door. But I was so overwhelming impressed I lost all my doubt. First I had no idea if the maple I wanted, the fjellheim, would be a good match in my area, we’re prone to some heavy gusts of wind and the description said not to plant in strong windy areas. Mendocino Maples has an excellent website with great pictures and descriptions; easily the best I have seen. This makes all the difference when selecting maples.

They responded very quickly to my questions and were very accomodating. I live in Canada and the process for getting maples approved for import is a headache but Mendocino Maples took care of everything.

My maples arrived in fantastic condition, were very healthy and were well packaged. They selected maples for me that were well suited for bonsai and I will appreciate that for years as the maples are trained.

I would definitely do business with Mendocino Maples again and I would recommend them without hesitation.

I purchased three dwarf Japanese Maples from you, Del’s Dward, Cynthia’s Crown Jewel and Yuri Hime, and I love them. However, they got off to a rough start. Just like Rob told me, they were mailed out on 4/15/13 and were at our local po box on 4/17/13…..BUT the postmaster forgot to tell us. I called Rob, he said they were scanned in at our post office on 4/17. I went down there and there they were, forgotten under a counter.

They all were pretty sad, mostly bown leaves and dry. Rob told me what to do and now on 5/5 (Happy Cinco de Mayo) all three are thriving, new healthy leaves are showing. Thank you, Rob, for your patience with me.

I will definately recommend you to anyone interested.

have purchased about seven (7) trees from Mendocino Maples over the last three (3) years. Candidly, I was concerned about purchasing live trees via the web and then having them shipped from West Coast to the East Coast. However, their shipping schedule indicated that the live trees would not be lingering in a postal office for prolonged periods of time with no attention.

My first purchases were a couple of dwarfs and when they arrived I potted them up immediately. They thrived from the outset. Last year I purchased a couple of Coral Bark trees and a couple more dwarfs (Shaina) of a different variety and they have done very well. I potted the Coral Bark trees to get them established and placed them on the deck of my hot tub. I planted, with some trepidation, my Shaina’s as I was very concerned about our clay soils. I amended heavily in preparation for their arrival but was still very nervous. They have done exceptionally well in partial sun in the North Carolina heat.

This Spring I purchased a couple of Murasaki kiyohime. They arrived as scheduled. When I pulled them out of their packing cartons I planted them into an amended area and one took off but the other looked a bit more stressed that any of my other Mendocino Maples had upon arrival. I contacted the vendor and they helped me with the care to get this little guy to respond. I dug him up and potted him to better control the soil and his environmental conditions like sun light and water. Nothing worked. I informed the vendor, as they request in their shipping literature, that my little tree was struggling. When I finally gave up hope I notified Mendocino and Robert asked for a couple of pictures. I sent the pictures and he sent me a new tree in the next shipping cycle.

I have since potted up both of my Murasaki kiyohime and they sit on my hot tub deck with my Coral Bark trees from last year’s stock. I have had exceptional success with Mendocino’s trees and have recommended their products to colleagues and neighbors. They ship a quality product and if one follows their planting instructions they most certainly stand behind their product.

Robert advised me to be patient and he was right! During August it filled out with leaves of green with bright red tips.
