Japanese Princess
- The Spring Show: Unlike the bright apricot-orange of 'Mystic Mikawa' or the luminous golden-yellow of 'Mayday', 'Japanese Princess' debuts in spring with a shocking display of vivid coral-pink and neon pink-red foliage.
- The Unique Summer Fade: As spring transitions, the leaves uniquely soften into a cream-white blush before settling into a muted bronze-green. This is radically different from 'Mystic’s' deep kelly green or 'Mayday’s' pale chartreuse.
- Foliage Texture: It features slightly larger, wider leaf lobes than both 'Mystic' and 'Mayday', giving the canopy a significantly fuller, more robust, and highly sculpted appearance.
- Growth Rate & Size: It is the true ultra-dwarf of the group, growing at a noticeably slower pace and reaching just 2 to 3 feet tall and wide over a decade—more compact than its peers.
- Spring Awakening: A breathtaking flush of glowing pink-red and neon coral-pink new growth, elegantly softened by a delicate white pubescence on the new leaves
-
Summer Transition: Softens into cream-white with a lingering pink undertone before maturing into a sturdy bronze-green canopy.
-
Autumn Finale: Wraps up the growing season with a dramatic, bright shift into rich shades of orange and deep crimson.
Nursery Production & Cultivation Specs - Hardiness: USDA Zones 5 through 9 (Cold hardy to -20°F in-ground).
- Exposure: Morning sun with mandatory afternoon shade protection. The delicate pastel summer tones will bleach or burn if subjected to harsh, direct midday heat.
- Substrate: Thrives best in coarse, organic-rich, acidic soil blends that drain flawlessly.
- Primary Uses: Elite container specimen for patios, courtyard gardens, rock gardens, and highly prized premium starter material for miniature bonsai.
