Pine Bark Maple Nishiki gawa
The Japanese maple Nishiki gawa or more commonly known as the Pine Bark maple has very unique rough bark, unlike other types of maples. The Pine Park has bark very similar to the Japanese Black Pine, hence the name. Nishiki gawa’s rough bark forms sooner and becomes more pronounced than that of similar Arakawa. Customers say that the Pine Bark roughens up 3-5 years faster than the Arakawa. Leaves emerge green and stay green throughout the summer, turning bright orange and red in the fall. Popular for bonsai, will grow upright and up to 18 feet in the landscape. Hardy to – 10 F A very cool unusual and interesting maple.

Ecstatic! I love nishiki gawa and have had trouble finding them in any size larger than one-gallon, especially in the Midwest. The two-gallon tree I received is gorgeous, healthy, large, and was a reasonable price even with the cross-country shipping.
The communication and customer service was top-notch too. Highly recommend Mendocino Maples!
