Winter’s Columnar Red is a red columnar Japanese maple tree like the green Columnar variety and Tsukasa Silhouette. Winter’s Columnar is a striking Acer palmatum that grows upright in a narrow form, with a max spread of 3 feet, making it an ideal choice for tight spaces. Winter’s Columnar has beautiful red foliage with deeply cut leaves and it will provide a fiery red display in the fall.

This tree maxes out at 8-10 feet in 12 years. It can handle moderate to full sun and does best in zones 5-8.

Aka kawa hime is a wonderful semi-dwarf palmatum with bright red bark in the winter. Aka kawa hime translates to "small red bark" in Japanese, which like the Sango Kaku, is this cultivar's main highlights. This tree has dense lime green foliage which turn golden yellow and orange winter. Acer Sieboldianum Kumoi Nishiki
Acer sieboldianum Kumoi Nishiki is one of our favorite maples due to its unique mottled variegation combined with the fuzzy texture that is characteristic of this species. In Japanese, kumoi means "sky", "cloud" or "imperial palace" and nishiki means "fancy", and this gorgeous plant holds true to this translation. Leaf shape is wide like some of the highly sought after moon varieties in shirasawanum. Spring colors have touches of pink and fall color brings a brilliant combination of purples, yellows and oranges. This plant is extremely cold tolerant, down to zone 5. If planted in the landscape, Kumoi Nishiki can reach up to 15 feet by 12 feet wide in 10 years.

This is a great maple for those in zone 5 or anyone worried about frost tolerance, as it is suited for -20. Fall color is a fiery red. This plant reaches between 8 and 10 feet by 5 feet wide at its maximum height.
