Aratama
Aratama is an Acer palmatum witches’ broom (a plant derived from a proliferation of shoots growing close together) with bright red new growth that matures to a deeper purple-red. Aratama in Japanese translates to “uncut gem”. If planted in the shade, leaves revert to bronze-green, so depending on where it is planted, this variety can be more red (sun) or more green (shade). This variety is a highly sought after, beautiful and strong growing dwarf that produces a compact plant in time, making it a great option for a potted plant on bonsai.
Aratama will reach 5 feet in height by 4 feet wide in 10 years. Takes full sun well. Best suited for zones 5-9.
