Kamagata
Acer palmatum Kamagata is a very nice delicate looking yet sturdy dwarf- a perfect choice for someone new to Japanese Maples. The bright green leaves are small and deeply palmate which curve downward at the lobes, giving it an elegant, unique look, (kamagata in Japanese means “hooked”). In spring the lime green leaves have a reddish tint to them which later turns to a bright, light green in summer. Fall colors bring a wash of brilliant yellow and orange, finally turning to red.
Kamagata forms a small, rounded tree that grows no larger than 4-6 feet in height by about 3-4 feet wide, a perfect choice for a small garden, or even a container plant. Kamagata can be slow growing at first but then tends to put out moderate growth after a few years. Sun/ part shade is preferred. Best suited for zones 5-9.
